A weaver embroiderer
In the south of Penafiel, in the current parish of Termas of S. Vicente, we find Paula Rodrigues da Cruz, the newest weaver in the county, born in 1970, in the house where she still lives and works. At the age of eight, she devoted herself to cross stitching and by the age of eighteen, learned the mastery of weaving using first the yarn waste and then the cotton and linen.
Her mother and three sisters were the masters of a profession that she never left. She likes to try new techniques and new materials, both in lace and embroidery, as in weaving. Many orders arrive, evidence of her success.
She has a special taste in teaching the art of embroidery and weaving and says with a sparkle in her eyes «if I won the lottery, I would open a school dedicated to teaching weaving».
