To seize is where the profit is
Maria Fernanda Silva was born in 1960 in the parish of Oldrões, currently lives and works in the parish of Galegos. On weaving learning, she recalls its origins, «at fifteen I had two important Carolinas in my life, unfortunately now deceased, who taught me how to warp and weave: Carolina, the Gumarães’ weaver, and Carolina, the catechist».
In the loom, offered by the catechist, she recycles industrial looms waste to make all kinds of pieces in various sizes: bedroom sets, carpets, napperons, placemats and, lately, even wallets, bags and backpacks. She shows no lack of imagination and courage when she says «I like to invent and experiment how can I create new pieces».
Although she is also dedicated to farming and livestock, shows preferences, «this craft is profitable and I really liked to teach it».
